Mark Herrick was born in Lansing, Michigan in the year 1950.
Mark has a strong family heritage in the fine arts.
His Grandfather; Ralph B. Herrick was a successful and well known architect who designed several churches and public schools in the Lansing, Michigan area. He also was the architect for the original State Parks of Michigan. His father; James W. Herrick played trumpet in the Sexton High School band and went on to become a senior V.P. loan officer of a bank in downtown Lansing. Mark's mother plays the piano and is a well known portrait artist. His parents are both living - eighty one years old. Mark excelled at art and music in high school.
In his later high school years around 1967, Mark joined a rock and roll band called; The Grains of Sand. The band was sponsored by a local pool hall called; The Rack and Rail. The band members were ... Jim Starr - lead, Jim Pitchford - organ, Gary Johnson - drums, Bob Ickus - bass and... Mark Herrick on rhythm guitar. The photo above is another band that came along a few years later called ... The Flowers!
"FAR OUT ... Flower Power ... Ha!" At that time, the band was just entering into the Hippie days with the Beatles and the English Invasion, etc.
Discovery of the Miracle Seashell:
Mark Herrick moved to Florida in 1986 and continued to do his fine art - oil paintings. One day, Mark was going through a bend of novelty seashells in a store and came across a shell that had the face of Christ in the shell. Mark kept the shell for over 25 years not knowing what to do with it until he started writing Christos Isla songs about four years ago. Mark decided to use the seashell image on the cd cover as the theme for the music.
The Christos Isla music was completely created and produced by Herrick. Herrick played various instruments including guitar, keyboards and bass to create this album. Much of the instrumentation was done on his mac computer system.
Mark Herrick lives in Sarasota, Florida. He is working to produce a second album coming out sometime next year.
